The stable building

This building contains a coach house, stables, black smith courtyard area and a workman's living quarters.

The stables

The horse stalls etc. have been removed from the stables and the building contains a fully restored Hansom Cab, a Penny-farthing bicycle and agricultural type items.

The workman's quarters

The workman's quarters are not open to the public as these quarters are now used as the caretakers garage.

The hay loft built over the stables, reached by external stairs is also not open to the public as it is used for storage.

The blacksmiths courtyard

This courtyard contains exhibits, which include:

  • The forge, with its bellows and collection of blacksmith tools showing an important part of life in the 1800's.
  • Wooden patterns used in the moulding section of the Lithgow Valley Colliery and wooden patterns used in the wheelwright and sulky building trade.
  • A heavy dray used to carry bricks from the Lithgow Valley brickworks and a light cart used as a delivery cart by the Lithgow Co-Op Society.
  • Sample lengths of railway line made at and branded Lithgow.
